Our dear favorite 'old' dog, RUBY...

Every time we go to Alberta, we make a quick stop at
the farm and say 'HI' to our
old dog Ruby.. we never know if it is the last time
we will see her.  We have MANY wonderful
memories with her in it.. Here are a few:

  • She became our dog when Kurt was just a little guy, and the family next door on the farm bought her brother Roy - they were inseparable..
  • She used to pull the kids out of the canal after jumping off of the bridge with them when they were young..
  • She would lift irrigation pipes high up in the air with her snout, trying to scare the gopher out; she had the persistance to make them meet their end every time..
  • She rode on the Gator with us all of the time when we were shooting gophers or moving pipes..
  • She relished the by-products of our hunting trips, there were bones and hides scattered all over the farm lawns every November..
  • She fiercely warned us vocally every time the Hutterites even thought of pulling into the yard..
  • She swam in the pond with us, jumped off of the dock, and rode in the canoe..
  • She had seizures a few times a year, it was painful and sad to watch, but she came back with more energy than ever every episode..
  • She constantly  followed the kids around the farm; she was SO loyal to us all..
  • She moved to BC with us in 2004 - co-tenants in the van with 3 kids, two birds and another yellow lab puppy..
  • She lived in the subdivision with us when we sold the farm, and when we thought 'this poor dog, who knows nothing but farm life, is living in a fenced yard...', we sent her back to the farm in Alberta where she spent most of her life..
  • She is now very hard of hearing, white haired and old, but she whines in contentment and cuddles us close when we visit her..
  • She holds a very dear spot in our hearts!

Isn't that a face that shows perfect contentment?

She was/is everything you would want in a family dog..
